Craniosacral therapy (CST) – what does it consist of?

Craniosacral therapy is a practical, gentle, and completely non-invasive method of physiotherapy. It presumes that under the influence of trauma, stress, and traumatic experiences in the body, disturbances of the cranial system are created. These disturbances are the root cause of blockages that result in muscle tension, leading to specific ailments.

Sacrocranial therapy involves using touch and gentle pressure on the sacrum, pelvis, diaphragm, upper thoracic opening, and cranial bones to relax the connective tissue structures. With the help of these stimulations, the physiotherapist makes contact with the connective tissue and releases the tension by going with its movement.

It is worth adding that craniosacral therapy has a positive effect on the proper functioning of the nervous, musculoskeletal, circulatory, lymphatic, endocrine, and respiratory systems. Dysfunction of any of these systems has a negative effect on the craniosacral system.

Craniosacral therapy – when to use it

Craniosacral therapy is a treatment process with a very broad spectrum of effects. It is used for dysfunctions and disorders of both somatic and psychological origin.

Craniosacral therapy – what is the goal of therapy?

The goal of craniosacral therapy is to restore the state of equilibrium in the body, thereby relieving existing psychosomatic ailments. To achieve this, a series of manipulations and mobilizations are carried out, affecting the restriction of connective tissue and bony structures. This allows for the improvement of the mobility of cranial bones, balancing the activity of the nervous system, and normalizing the fluctuation of cerebrospinal fluid.

At our Kinespa clinic, before starting therapy, we interview the patient and assess posture and skin appearance and we also pay attention to behavior and emotional state. We then check the rhythm and flow of cerebrospinal fluid, as well as the state of tension of soft-tissue structures. A properly focused examination and good perception are guaranteed to detect tissue restrictions and truly assess the craniosacral rhythm. This is necessary for implementing and applying the most appropriate therapy techniques.
