What is pulmonary rehabilitation?

Pulmonary rehabilitation comes from the tradition of using respiratory gymnastics. It refers to comprehensive, multispecialty activities that, combined with an individualized treatment plan, reduce disease-related dysfunctions. Respiratory rehabilitation improves physical fitness, mental and functional state, as well as the social situation and quality of life for people with diseases that impair respiratory function.

Pulmonary rehabilitation – when to consider it? Who is it intended for?

For pulmonary rehabilitation, we primarily qualify patients:

  • with chronic lung diseases (pneumoconiosis, fibrosis, sarcoidosis)

  • with lung cancer

  • with cystic fibrosis disease

  • with bronchial dilatation

  • with bronchial asthma

Pulmonary rehabilitation at Kinespa – what are the goals of pulmonary rehabilitation?

The general goals of pulmonary rehabilitation include reducing the severity of disease symptoms, increasing physical fitness and muscular endurance, improving overall motor skills, as well as freeing the patient from negative emotional states, and strengthening the sense of security. In addition, pulmonary rehabilitation contributes to the formation of the patient’s realistic assessment of their capabilities, and self-control skills, and also helps to maintain full activity in social and professional life.

At our Kinespa Clinic, the rehabilitation program is based on an examination, education, and chest physiotherapy. During the examination, we place considerable attention on assessing the severity of symptoms (especially shortness of breath) and checking respiratory capacity.

In addition, we assess body structure and composition and evaluate the ability to undertake physical exertion. We also assess the patient’s mental state, which is of utmost importance to us. We perform many other activities that are necessary to make an individual assessment – as a result of the patient’s individual preferences and expectations.
